Kick Off the Holidays in Downtown OP

October 31st, 2017

Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony

Join us as we kick off the holiday season in Downtown Overland Park with Mayor Carl Gerlach, Santa, carolers, hayrides and more on Friday, November 17, 2017, at the annual Mayor's Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.

We are excited to announce that the beneficiary of this year's Tree Lighting event is the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. This mission of JCCB is to provide warmth and support during the winter holiday season, increase awareness and understanding of poverty in Johnson County and to give neighbors an outlet to help neighbors - the Bureau serves between 10,000 and 12,000 low-income neighbors each year.

There are several ways to help us support the Johnson County Christmas Bureau, the 2017 beneficiary of the Mayor's Tree Lighting Ceremony, this holiday season:

  • DONATE | Financial donations may be sent to the Downtown Overland Park Partnership (7315 West 79th Street, Overland Park, KS 66204 - make checks payable to JCCB) or online.
  • VOLUNTEER | Volunteers are needed for 3-4 hour shifts at the JCCB Holiday Shop. Please visit JCCB.org and click on the "volunteer" button for available dates and times.
  • DONATE | Non-perishable food and personal hygiene items will be collected throughout the month of November at the following Downtown locations:
    • Carl's Salon
    • CommuniTea
    • Great Western Bank (inside Avenue 80)
    • Harper's Fabrics & Quilt Co.
    • Downtown OP Partnership

The JCCB supports over 10,000 low-income neighbors year year by providing groceries, winter coats, children's clothing, personal care items, gifts (many times the only gifts a family will receive) and more. Visit JCCB.org to learn about the organization and the impact it makes here in Overland Park.

Stick around after the tree lighting to check out November's Local Life 3rd Friday - #DowntownOP businesses will be open late with live music, holiday shopping specials and much more.
