Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony

Join us as we kick off the holiday season in Downtown Overland Park with Mayor Carl Gerlach, Santa, hayrides and more on Friday, November 16, 2018, at the annual Mayor's Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. Bryan Busby will join us once again as the event emcee!
The beneficiary of this year's event is the Heartstrings Community Foundation, a local non-profit assists that adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities to live meaningful, productive and independent lives through successful employment in the business community.
Financial donations to the Heartstrings Community Foundation can be mailed or dropped at the Downtown Overland Park Partnership (7315 West 79th Street, Overland Park, KS 66204); click here to donate online. We will also be collecting the following items for Heartstrings at the Downtown OP Trick-or-Treating! event on Saturday, 10/27, and throughout the month of November:
  • Sandwich-Sized Ziploc Bags
  • Laundry Detergent (HE/High Efficiency Only)
  • Dryer Sheets
Donations of clothing, shoes and accessories in good condition can be taken to Sacks On Santa Fe, an upscale resale boutique staffed by Heartstrings employees. Click here for a full list of accepted items.
Donations of new and gently used hats, gloves and scarves can be added to The Movement Clinic Chiropractic's Warming Tree this holiday season! All Warming Tree items will be donated to Sacks On Santa Fe.
Stick around after the Tree Lighting to check out Local Life 3rd Friday. Your favorite locally-owned shops and restaurants keep their doors open late on the 3rd Friday of every month to bring you live music, food and drink samples, gallery opens, spa treatments, shopping and more.
