Earth Day 2017 | Clothing/Textile Recycling Event
April 22 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Saturday, April 22 | 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | InterUrban ArtHouse
The U.S. EPA estimates that while the textile recycling industry recycles approximately 3.8 billion pounds of post-consumer textile waste each year, nearly 85% of post-consumer textile wastes still ends up in landfills each year. The EPA estimates that textile waste occupies nearly 5% of all landfill space.
This Earth Day, join Johnson County Recycles and Downtown Overland Park merchants as we do our part to reduce the amount of textile waste in area landfills. Clothing and textile recyclables will be collected and redistributed to non-profits, shelters and other charitable organizations around Kansas City to provide new life and purpose to items that might otherwise end up in a landfill.
Bring your clothing and textile recyclables to the drop-off point behind the future home of the InterUrban ArtHouse (8010 Conser Street/behind the Post Office) between 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22. Volunteers will help you unload your recyclables and sort them to determine where they can be re-used or re-purposed. Your textiles may find a new home at one of the following area organizations (more organizations to be announced soon):
